Technicians

Day Space sessions are for self-directed practice providing you with access to the listed studio equipment. Tuition is not included in the session times, however during Day Space hours there will be a technician you will be able to ask questions about Day Space arrangements. If you would like to add tuition it can be arranged at an hourly rate.

Attendance

The timing of Day Space sessions are arranged to specifically accommodate practice and cleaning times. Please stick to the start and finish times. Use of the studio's facilities outside of booked session times is not permitted. If you are interested in furthering your practice or extended studio access this can be arranged through our other services, gold and silver membership options.

Age

To attend a Day Space session, you must be 18 or over unless otherwise listed in the session description. If you are under this age and would like to attend, please contact us via email. You may need to attend with a guardian.

Experience

As Day Space sessions are self-directed you will need to have had some prior experience in making ceramics. You do not need to know everything but to be able to enjoy your session you would benefit from having past experience in hand building throwing and glazing. Please email us or give us a call if you are unsure or alternatively you could look out for classes offered by us.

Purpose

Day Space sessions are available for the purpose of learning and are not for the production of ceramics for sale. This also aligns with our wider studio incentives as a facility for learning rather than production.

Payment for firings

Payment for fired work is made via Izettle card payment within the studio on collection of work.

The firing pricing list within the studios is there for your reference as a guide.
We load kilns on Mondays and Thursdays, the appropriately sized kiln will only be determined after observing the total productivity of that week's work.
A technician can further help you understand kiln firing arrangements and pricing.

It is worth considering the pricing of firings when making work. Kiln space is priced on percentage of kiln space used and temperature fired to, each kiln has a price depending on size. Technicians will make the best decision of kiln size based on the quantity of work the studio has to fire.

Kiln space is utilised by the stacking of shelves within the kiln. Tall work takes more space so reduces the number of shelves we can place in the kiln making taller work more expensive to fire if there are few pieces of similar height. The firing cost sheet shows percentages in 10% increments, but we can fire smaller quantities of work.

As specified, the purpose of the studios is to benefit those that are learning and exploring their practice rather than focussing producing wares for sale. Please bear this in mind when making work. You are welcome to discuss this with the studio technicians if you are unsure about your direction of making.

In booking a Day Space session and having work fired you are agreeing to pay for all work fired under the arrangements of the studio.

Handling firings and the outcome of work.

We do our upmost to make sure work progresses successfully through the firing stages but due to the fragile and occasionally unpredictable nature of ceramics there can be breakages. By booking a Day Space session you acknowledge that damages through the processing of work may occur.
No refunds will be possible for damaged or undesirable work.

Collection of work.

After your Day Space session, we will contact you via email to arrange collection of your work, this will usually be within two weeks or less of its placement for firing. You can pay for and collect your work on your next booked session or if outside of a session booking contact us to arrange collection on either a Monday or Thursday.

We will keep work for a maximum of a month (28 days) from your last session booking unless discussed with a member of management. Any work not collected after this date will unfortunately be discarded due to limited studio space. Collection of work within this time period is the responsibility of the maker.

You will receive further details about payment and collection of work with the studio induction on your first session.

Storage

We provide a limited shelving storage area for each artist for work in progress, tools and materials. Work materials and possessions can be kept for a short time depending on regularity of Day Space use. These workspaces will need to be cleared if an artist has not returned within a month(28days) It is important to contact us via email or phone if for an unforeseen reason you are unable to collect your items within this time. If requested, we will be able to keep these for a further limited time of 14 days for you to arrange for their collection. Uncollected glazes and tools will be viewed as donated and made available to other artists.
By booking a Day Space you are agreeing to these storage arrangements.
